Excursion to Ivanovka village and “Chabiant Winery”
- Duration: 6 hours
Itinerary: Hotel - Ivanovka village - Chabiant Winery - hotel
10:00 Departure to Ivanovka.
Ivanovka is a village and a municipal unit of Ismayilli district. Today it is the last collective farm left in the country. Located 200 km from Baku in the north of Ismayilli district, Ivanovka today has about 3000 inhabitants. Being expelled from their lands, the hard-working Molokan people did not lose their spirit and quickly settled in a new place. As soon as you get to Ivanovka, you will immediately notice that this place is unlike any other. Many locals are blond-haired and blue-eyed. Many houses are built in the manner of log houses, and the roofs are covered with red tiles.
Interestingly, the nickname Molokane is directly related to milk. In the 18th century, it was considered an insult because the Molokans drank milk during Lent , when the Orthodox were fasting. Later the term was reinterpreted as drinking God's sacred milk, and the word ceased to be an offense. Molokans have exceptionally puritanical morals - they avoid smoking, swearing and icons. Instead of churches, religious meetings are held in houses of worship, devoid of any ornamentation, and which are indistinguishable from other houses in appearance.
14:00 After visiting the village we will go to one of the largest wineries of Azerbaijan «Chabiant Winery»
